Michael Olson, 67, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his residence.

A gathering time for family and friends will be held from Noon until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Michael Edwin Olson was born on October 11, 1950 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Herbert Omer and M. Jane (Dowling) Olson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Black River Lutheran Church rural Saint Hilaire, MN. He attended Northrop Elementary while the family lived in Thief River Falls. In 1963 the family moved to rural Red Lake Falls and Michael attended Saint Hilaire School. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1970.

Following high school, Michael worked for Rick and Mable Mosbeck for a couple of years. He then entered into service into the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Constellation (CV-64) which was deployed primarily in the Philippines and Singapore area. Michael earned the rank of E4 and was Honorably Discharged following four years of active duty.

He returned home to the farm and started taking automotive classes through the AVTI. Michael graduated with an Associate Degree in Automotive Repair. He worked at various tire shops in Thief River Falls and Grand Forks and had a good reputation as a tire man .

Michael loved Fords, watching Star Trek, listening to old country music, watching old war movies, reading Louis L'Amour, going to air shows, reading about airplanes, driving his GTO in his early years and playing with his nieces and nephews.

Michael had a heart of gold, was tender hearted, quick tempered but got over it quickly, and always willing to help family or friends.

Survivors include siblings, Nancy (Jim) Heisler of Crookston, MN, Eddy (Linda) Olson of Red Lake Falls, Julie (Randy) Hesse of Bryant, SD, Tom (Peggy) Olson of Red Lake Falls; 11 nieces & nephews, Randy Jr., Derek, Lana, Lisa, Jason, Danielle, Stephanie, Matthew, Michelle, Katie, Alex; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and niece Kiara.
