Milan Theodore Borsheim was born October 13, 1933 the son of Dagney (Johnson) and Arthur Borsheim in Barnesville, Minnesota. Arthur passed away when Milan was 2 years of age. Milan then spent most of his youth until his teens at the farm with Lewis and Bea Ambers at Rollag, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, Minnesota and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. In 1942 the family moved to Thief River Falls, which was supposed to be a short time, to take care of grandma.
He graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 51 a class he was really proud to be a part of. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He worked for Schuster Job Printing and in 1960 Milan and his brother Loren purchased the business and started Borsheim Printing We Print Everything But Money. In 1972 Milan purchased the business from his brother and continued until his retirement.
In 1966 Milan married Elaine Stangehelle in Warren, Minnesota to this union 2 sons were born. In 2002 Milan and his wife Elaine moved to Bagley, Minnesota, where Elaine was an X-Ray Technician for the hospital and they could be closer to their cottage at Round Lake. In 2004 Elaine passed away from a rare disease called amyloidosis.
Milan was actively involved in the community, he was extremely proud of his involvement with the newly established Pennington Fair Association, Inc.; with the removal of all the old buildings, transferring the land to the city so they could have full use of the Huck Olson Memorial Arena and the TRF Curling Building, it was a great undertaking. He was the secretary of the new board for ten years. He was really proud of the leadership and the community support and how far they have come; it is the largest single event of the Thief River community. Milan was a city councilman for 12 years serving the 1st Ward, life member of the VFW Post 2793, 50 year consecutive member of the American Legion Post 117, Eagle Aerie 2368, Voiture 737 40 et 8, past member of the Chamber of Commerce, Elks, Penn. Co. Sportsmen, Ducks Unlimited, Minn. Deer Hunters Assn., and Faith Lutheran Church of Bagley.
The most important thing to Milan was his family. You could always hear him say love your family and treasure them, give them a hug now and then. He loved to spend time with his family at the cottage, he said the cottage is what really held the family together, they worked hard, played hard and most of all had a wonderful time together. In his younger years Milan was an avid hunter, shooting a moose in Alaska, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, shooting ducks over decoys in Thief Lake. He was also proud of his garden and canning his vegetables. Milan loved people; he liked being the life of the party. You would hear him say he was the President of the Northwest Association of __________ , be it BSers, smear, horseshoe, games or whatever.
Milan is survived by two sons, Mark (Sherry) Columbus, IN, Wayne (Joe) Chicago, 2 grandchildren Gavin Arthur and Mya JoAnn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elaine, his parents, 1 sister Vivian, 2 brothers Kenneth and Loren, and stepfather Harry Schuster.
