Obituary

Milan Rustan, 88, died on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Oak Park Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service at Oklee, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service on Thursday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Milan Rustan was born on November 24, 1921 in rural Oklee, MN, the son of Edward and Josie (Gunderson) Rustan. He graduated from Oklee High School in 1940. Milan worked on the farm for a few years and then went to work at Rustan Brothers Jewelers in Red Lake Falls. He also spent time working in the missile silos in North Dakota and also the pipeline. Milan moved to California for a short time where he worked repairing watches. In 1948 he bought the family farm and started farming. He retired from farming in 1985. Milan lived on the home place all his life and served as Township Supervisor for many years. He never married.

Milan enjoyed music (he played the banjo), fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards.

Milan is survived by 2 brothers, Elmer of Oklee, MN and Hilmer of Anchorage. Alaska; 5 sisters, Evelyn Piepgras of Minneapolis, MN, Violet Ronne of Oklee, MN, Lillian (Phil) Hilgeman of Minneapolis, MN, Lyla (John) Kimball of Potomac, Maryland and Dellys (Nick) Nylec of Lansdowne, Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Gloria Rustan.

He is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Edwin, Benny and Richard; sister, Lillian in infancy; 3 sisters-in-law, Laura Rustan, Delores Rustan and Elsie Rustan; 2 brothers-in-law, Walter Piepgras and Charles Ronne and a half-brother, Alward.
