Mildred Mugaas Thief River Falls, MN, 94, died Wednesday January 8, 2014 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN with her loving family at her side. Memorial service will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverends Mark Helgeland and Ben Carlson Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Sunday. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Evanger Lutheran Church in rural Kenmare, ND with Vice Pastor Todd Olson Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday April 5th. Burial will be held at the Evanger Church Cemetery at Kenmare, ND. Mildred Beatha Mugaas was born September 7, 1919 daughter of the late Keith and Gunda (Johnson) Knutson in Rockford Township, Renville County, ND. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1939. She married Einar Mugaas on October 14, 1945 at Evanger Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare, ND. Mildred and Einar lived in Minot, ND until 1948 when they moved to Oxnard, CA. They returned to North Dakota and in 1951 moved to New Salem, ND where they started Einar's Surge Service. Mildred was actively involved in the business until the death of Einar in 1958. The following year Mildred and their three children moved to Kenmare where she resided for the next 43 years. She was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church which helped sustain her deep faith. She worked at the Kenmare Hospital, cared for her mother and worked at the Baptist Home until retiring in May, 1987. Mildred was known for her tasty cooking and baking. She enjoyed church activities, gardening and working on a wide variety of handcrafted items. Mildred had a special bond with her identical twin Beatrice. Phone calls and spending time together were an important part of her life. In 2002 Mildred moved to Jamestown, ND and three years later to Thief River Falls, MN. She lived at Green Leaf Assisted Living until 2013 when she entered the Thief River Care Center. While at Greenleaf she maintained an active lifestyle by participating in many activities including her favorite pastime of jigsaw puzzles. Survivors most honored to share in her life include children Karen (Richard) Diehl of West Fargo, ND and David (Mary Jo) Mugaas of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Cora (John) Davis of West Fargo, ND, Sarah (Brian) Kading of Thief River Falls, MN, Emily Mugaas of Minneapolis, MN, Carrie Gartner of Havre, MT, Michelle Bakken of Thief River Falls, MN, Andrea (Chris) Stephenson of Hutchinson, MN, Vanessa (Mike) Wilebski of Thief River Falls, MN, and Chad (Mary) Lundeen of Oklee, MN: great-grandchildren Kylie Davis, Nick Davis, Carly Tihista, Jordin Kading, Brooklyn Kading, Kaitlyn Bakken, Jennica Bakken, Baylor Bakken, Blaine Stephenson, Haley Stephenson, Mason Wilebski, Elijah Wilebski, Rylan Lundeen, Dylan Lundeen and Braylee Lundeen. Brothers and sisters Knute Knutson of Kenmare, ND, Victor (Alma) Knutson of Minot, ND, Clifford (Phyllis) Knutson of Fergus Falls, MN, Genevieve Gates of Minot, ND and Florence Nesland of Seal Beach, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James Mugaas, grandson Christian Gartner, brothers Silas Knutson and Casper Knutson, twin sister Beatrice Brekhus.
