Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Friday at the church. Mildred Bernice Rindahl was born on March 15, 1925 in North Dakota to the late Mike and Christine (Olson) Rindahl. She moved to Minnesota at the age of 5 with her family where she grew up helping on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith and attended country school. On June 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to Oscar Nerhus. The couple made their home in Star Township of Pennington County where they've resided since. Together they raised 3 children, 2 sons, Rocky and Larry, and one daughter Charleen. Mildred enjoyed living the farm life. From milking cows to raising her own Herford cattle. She enjoyed gardening and raising her own fresh vegetables for canning as well as just for sampling. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in rural Trail where she was active in their ladies aide and also helped out as a Sunday school teacher. She was a very hard working farm wife while her husband was away working hard in many states as a dragline operator. She would have her 3 children by her side as she would do the haying and tending to the cattle herself. At times, she'd take the time to travel out to be with Oscar. Her journey's led her out to California and South Dakota. She also sold Avon as a past time for several years. In her past time, Mildred loved to crochet and sew. And anyone who ever came to visit her would never leave hungry. There was always a full meal on the table or desserts prepared all the time. Later on in the years, Mildred developed arthritis and suffered many broken bones from her arms, wrist, hip, and left leg which later led to an amputation and wheelchair bound which she hated so much. It kept her from doing all the things she loved doing on the farm. Mildred enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and her great grandchild. She couldn't wait long enough for them to start driving so they could take her around. Whether it was to show her how different things were looking around the farm, to going into town just to go out to eat at her favorite restaurants. She loved when her grandkids would come and cook for her. Mildred always showed her appreciation to people by showering them with gifts. She was such a giving person. Mildred is survived by her son, Larry (Sandy) Nerhus of Goodridge, MN; 5 grandchildren, Tanya (Nick) Kotrba, Trent (special friend, Ashley Marquis), Blake, Chantal, and Karson Nerhus, and 1 great grandchild Nevaeh Kotrba all of Goodridge, MN; as well as nieces, nephews, and other family members. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Christine; sisters, Myrtle Trulson, Mildred Rindahl in infancy; husband, Oscar; son, Rocky; and daughter, Charleen.
