Mildred Philipp, 85, died on January 4, 2008 at Mills Peninsula Hospital, Burlingame, CA.

Mildred was born August 17, 1922 in Euclid, to Cora and Ludvig Galsvig. After graduating from Plummer High School, she worked as a waitress and telephone operator in the local area.
She married Earl L. Philipp on June 28, 1945 at St. John Church in Thief River Falls. They settled and farmed in the Goodridge area. They later moved to Crookston, where the first of their two sons was born.
In the mid 1950s, they moved to California and settled in South San Francisco. Every summer would find them packing the car for the annual trip back to Minnesota to visit family and friends. In 1970, Mildred started working for the South San Francisco school district. Later that year, Earl died in a tragic highway accident soon after their 25th wedding anniversary. She continued to work for the school district until 1979, when she retired after an injury occurring at work.
In the mid 1980s, she started to volunteer for the American Cancer Society store as a sales associate. While working there, she met Louis Anderson and they soon became good friends. Over the next few years, they enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii, Norway, China and Japan. Mildred suffered another loss when Louis died.
She was a tough fighter, who survived two previous episodes of cancer and later, a stroke. She continued to fight the limitations of the stroke and hoped to eventually return to her home.
She is survived by sons, Marc Philipp of South San Francisco, Calif, and John (Lori) Philipp of San Jose, Calif.; two grandsons; sister, Corann Fladhammer of Mentor; brother, Reynold (Betty) Gulsvig of Crookston; three sister-in-laws, Yvonne Philipp of Goodridge, Constance Philipp and Harriet Philipp of Thief River Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl L. Philipp; sisters, Ethel Pederson; infants Ella Mae and Marian; and brothers, Arnold Gulsvig and infant Merle.
