Mildred Sorenson, 82, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Mildred Elaine Sletten was born on September 21, 1927 in Grygla, MN the daughter of Adolph and Tillie (Byklum) Sletten. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended school in Grygla.
Mildred was united in marriage to Merl R. Sorenson in St. Louis, MO on February 25, 1947. They made their home in Waukegan, IL and to this union three children were born, Roger, Elaine and Jerry. She was a homemaker and then went to work for Compacted Metals in Waukegan for 15 years, retiring in 1982. Mildred and Merl then made their home on a farm near Grygla where they continued to reside.
She enjoyed gardening her flowers, reading, crocheting, solitaire game and word search. She loved feeding and watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds; and she loved being with her grandchildren, great-granddaughter, family and friends.
Mildred was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #162 and had the Historian position.
Survivors include her three children, Roger Sorenson of Beach Park, IL, Elaine (James) Wells of Spring Grove, IL, and Jerry Sorenson of Wheatland, WI; 7 grandchildren, Christofer Wells, Janelle (Kris) Schlosser, Austin Sorenson, Amber Sorenson currently serving in the U.S. Army, Arden Sorenson, Avonlea Sorenson and Stephen Sorenson; great-granddaughter, Madison Wells; sister, JoAnne (Duane) Hovet of Shawano, WI; sister-in-law, Mary Sletten of Grygla, MN; special friends, Leland and Thelma Thomas and Bernice Sistad all of Grygla, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merl on October 21, 2000; parents; and brothers, LeRoy and Harvey.
