Mildred "Millie" Thorstad, 76, died unexpectedly following a brief illness on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Mildred Irene Eggerud was born on November 30, 1935 on the family farm near Lancaster, MN the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Johnson) Eggerud. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church; and attended country school. Millie graduated from Lancaster High School in 1954 and moved to Thief River Falls where she graduated from Nurses Training at St. Luke's Hospital in 1955. On October 20, 1956, Millie was united in marriage to John Thorstad at First Lutheran Church in Lancaster, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union three children were born, Diane, Mark and Daniel. Millie stayed at home while the children were small. In 1967 she resumed her nursing career at the Falls Clinic where she continued to work until her retirement. Millie was loving, patient and always positive. She spread her love everywhere she went. Millie was a happy person and never complained or said a bad word about anybody. She was very family oriented, creative had a great imagination. Millie sincerely loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all. Millie and John were a role model of a great marriage through their almost 56 years together. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping, but most of all loved spending time with family and friends. Millie had a lot of faith and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Survivors include her husband, John; children, Diane (Duane) Gonsorowski, Mark (Kathleen) Thorstad all of Thief River Falls and Danny (Mary) Thorstad of Rosewood, MN; grandchildren, Paul (Jackie) Gonsorowski, Jennifer (Christopher) Restad, Mauri (fiance, Anthony Roy) Gonsorowski, Corey (Doug) Melby, Kelly (fiance, Brett Lien) Thorstad, Jessica Thorstad and Benjamin Thorstad; great-grandchildren, Gannon and Easton Gonsorowski, and soon to be baby Restad; sister, Eunice (Wesley) Rud of Strandquist, MN; sister-in-law, Diane Eggerud of Thief River Falls; step-father, Ed Van de Streek of Thief River Falls; second daughter, Janet Ehrenstrom of Bemidji, MN; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
