Miranda Skaaren, 98 of Bemidji, MN, formerly of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Cedar Cottage in Bemidji, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.
We celebrate the special life of Miranda Skaaren, born March 23, 1919 to Arne and Kornelia (Ostrem) Hagen at home in Northwood Township rural Grygla. She was baptized and confirmed at Northwood Church. She attended the Hanson Grade School through the eighth grade.
On October 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Jesse Skaaren at Grygla, MN. She said the date she got married was always printed red on the calendar (Columbus Day). The couple farmed south of Thief River Falls Township, Pennington County. Where one daughter, Sandra and two sons, Kenneth and Jerry were raised.
After her husband died, she moved to Bemidji, MN in 1994. Being a pleasant and caring woman she enjoyed the company of the women in her apartment building. In 2011, Miranda was admitted to the Cedar Cottage "Assisted Living" in Bemidji, MN. There she received excellent care and loved those who cared for her.
Miranda is survived by two brothers: Otto Hagen and Norris Hagen, Grygla, MN. Children: Sandra (Curtis) Cobb, Thief River Falls, MN, Kenneth (Linda) Skaaren, Bemidji, MN, Jerry (Debra) Skaaren, Little Falls, MN. Grandchildren: three granddaughters: Sonja Knaak, Anita (Wayne) Mensen, Kellie Skaaren. Three grandsons: Jason, Andy (Sue), and Cory (Jessica) Skaaren. Four great-grandchildren: Heather, River, Ryder and Wyatt. And many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Miranda was preceded in death by her husband Jesse and her parents. Two brothers: Oscar and Melvin Hagen; five sisters: Inga Ulla, Clara Boe, Alma Svenpladsen, Benora Falk and Lila Holthusen, and grandson-in-law Kim Knaak, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
