Obituary

Myles A. Olson, loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Thief River Falls, MN, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, peacefully in his sleep at home. He was 64 years and 11 days. May his memory be blessed. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Bob Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at the church. Myles Arlen Olson was born at Mercy hospital in Thief River Falls, Minnesota on March 30, 1948 to Rufus and Violet ( Larson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota and attended there all of his life. Myles attended elementary school in Thief River Falls, MN and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. A highlight of his high school career was going to state in Wrestling in 1964. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Berkeley from 1967 to 1970. He completed an Associates in Arts degree from Northland Community College in 1978. He was employed by the city of Thief River Falls and spent many years working in the arena. He finished his career as the city forester. He worked for the city for 36 ½ years. On September 2, 1972 Myles was united in marriage to Susan( Emerson) Olson at Faith Lutheran Church in Wolverton, Minnesota. They have three girls; Heather, who is a reading specialist, Myndy, who is a nurse practitioner, and Katy, who is a science teacher. Myles was also very close to his two nephews, Krist and Shawn, who grew up a half mile away from Myles and Susie's home. Myles was an avid fisherman and spent almost every morning in the summer up at 4 am to catch the elusive walleye. He also enjoyed hunting and doing anything outdoors. As Grandpa, his grandkids were so important to him. He loved to give them rides on the four-wheeler, throw them to "the snakes", and feed them spice drops and hot tamales on the sly. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his fifth grandchild. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Susan of Thief River Falls, MN; children, Heather( Steve) Willman of Rochester, MN, Myndy ( Jason) Livingston of Woodbury, MN, and Katy Olson of White Bear Lake, MN; grandchildren, Elise, Anna, and Erik Willman, and Stella Livingston; brothers, Stanley Olson, East Berlin, PA, Lyle (Lori) Olson, Thief River Falls, MN, Bob (Jennifer) Larson, Chattanooga, TN, and Ken Larson, Hastings, MN; sister, Patricia(Fran) Morone, Lodi CA. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Eleanor Emerson, and his sister Rochelle Ann who died at birth.
