Obituary



Myron Dick Reck, 80, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN, after spending 2 years at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center at Erskine, MN, after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A. M. on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Russ Harris officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Wednesday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Myron Frederick Reck was born on August 24, 1922 in Danube, MN, the son of George and Mata (Zinni) Reck. Later the family moved to Cavalier, ND, where he grew to adulthood.

On April 9, 1947 Dick was united in marriage to Grace Murrien Burt in the Presbyterian Church, rural Walhalla, ND. The couple moved to rural Red Lake Falls, Terrebonne Township in 1949, after purchasing their farm in 1948.

Dick started his Reck Carpenter Construction Company when his three sons were old enough to help. He also worked in Grand Forks, ND at Roger Brothers for 13 winters. He and his crew built the Minnesota State Wheat Building at Red Lake Falls and also other homes and buildings in and around Red Lake Falls.

He was chairman on the Mentor School Board for 22 years, retiring from the school board in 1989. All their children graduated from Mentor High School. He also served on the Terrebonne Township Board for many years, and the Pine to Prairie Cooperative Center in Red Lake Falls. Dick was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls and was on the church session there and other Presbyterian churches that he had belonged to.

In 1984 Dick and Grace received the Red Lake County Valley Farmer and Homemaker Award at the Winter Shows in Crookston, MN.

Since retiring from farming in 1985 they spent 15 winters at their home in Mission, TX. He built, with his sons and helper, Russ Sebenaler, a new home in Red Lake Falls and moved into it in 1997. He also helped build the Sugar Beet Plant in Crookston, MN.

They enjoyed RVing in their Mini Home on weekends to other states. He also loved camping with family and friends. Dick dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed horse shoes and building things in the park where they stayed in Texas.

Dick is survived by his wife, Grace of Red Lake Falls, MN; three sons: Milton (Susan) of Mentor, MN, Mayo (Diane) of St. Paul, MN and Milo (Marilee) of Waseca, MN; three daughters: Georgene (Doug) Corbett of Minot, ND, Claudea Reck of Fargo, ND and Michelle (Tim) Richard of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren: Kurtis (Bethany) Reck, Chris Reck, Kristy Reck, Heather Reck, Shannon Reck, Grant Corbett and Ashley Gagner; two great grandchildren: Tyler Reck and Taylor Reck; brother Del (Cathie) of Nisswa, MN, half sister Grace Kindell, Doty, WA, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mata; his father, George; and step mother, Marian; half brother, Clarence; and half brother-in-law, Ed Kindell.
