Myrtle Byklum died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will follow at Our Saviors Cemetery, Hamre Twp., Beltrami Co., MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Myrtle Newhouse was born October 11, 1909 at Wilmington, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Helen (Jelle) Newhouse. She was baptized at Wilmington and confirmed at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jelle, MN. She grew up and attended school.
On May 19, 1945, Myrtle was united in marriage to John Byklum and became a housewife on the farm. She also baby-sat for the Walter Jelle family and worked at Roseau Childrens Home for many years.
Myrtle was active in Ladies Aid at church and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She liked to play cards, crochet, knit, cook and bake for family. She made quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survived by 4 children and 3 step-daughters: Ronnie (Nancy) Byklum, Grygla, MN, Rodney (Avis) Byklum, Grygla, MN, Lois (Don) Dodd, Detroit Lakes, MN, Duane (Rosalie) Byklum, Fargo, ND LaVonne Delaney, Sacramento, CA, Darlene Upton, Everett, WA, Joanne (Duane) Hovet, Sheyenne, WI.; 19 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brother, Leonard, Erskine, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by husband, John; sister, Evelyn Byklum; brother, Elmer Newhouse; granddaughter, Debra Chinn and great grandson, Skyler Nordby.
