Myrtle Eggen, 99, died on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at Riverview Care Center in Crookston, MN.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2006 ~ 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with Pastor Virgil Rasmussen, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Petri Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.
Visitation will one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN.
Myrtle Matilda Tengesdal was born on March 13, 1907 the daughter of Ole and Serina (Stennes) Tengesdal, in Hendrum, MN. In 1910, she moved with her parents to Northwood Township, Beltrami County, MN where her father homesteaded. She attended country school and was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Northwood Church, rural Grygla, MN.
On January 15, 1931 she was united in marriage to Norman Eggen in Ada, MN. The couple lived and farmed near Ada until 1943, before moving to Grygla to farm until their retirement. Norman died on July 31, 1992. Myrtle moved to Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston, MN in September of 2004.
Myrtle loved to go to church, read her bible and loved her lord and family. She enjoyed listening to Billy Graham, talking on the phone with her family and friends, gardening, crocheting and baking. Myrtle was good at drawing, crocheting, embroidery, knitting, and sewing. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and berry picking.
Myrtle is survived by her children Clifford Eggen and his wife Doris, Thief River Falls, Joyce Brewster and her husband Jed of Warroad, MN; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister Orpha Sorteberg, Roseau, MN along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman; parents, granddaughter Patricia Walker; brothers Chester Tengesdal, Joeseph Tengesdal, Reuben Tengesdal; and sisters Margaret Tengesdal and Viola Liebelt.
