Myrtle Lofgren, 89, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at New Life Family Worship Center in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Joe Karow officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, St. Hilaire, MN.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Myrtle Bakken was born on July 19, 1916 in Highlanding Township, Pennington County, MN, the daughter of Mathies and Seyniva (Rensla) Bakken. She was baptized and confirmed in Ekelund Lutheran Church and attended Country School. Myrtle was united in marriage to Norval Peter Swenson in 1933 in Clarkfield, MN. The couple lived in Clarkfield for a short time before moving to St. Hilaire, then they moved to Thief River Falls.

She worked for Model Laundry and also for the Laundry Department at the Hospital. Myrtle enjoyed quilting, walking and visiting with friends and won Grand Champion at the Pennington County Fair for her beautiful embroidering.

She was a member of New Life Family Worship Center.

Myrtle is survived by her children: LaVonne Austad of Lake Bronson, MN, Carol (Dale) Sylvander of Moorhead, MN, Dale (Geraldine) Swenson of Thief River Falls, MN, Eileen (Bob) Purdy of Phoenix, AZ and Janice (Richard) Booen of Thief River Falls, MN; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; one sister, Christine Newton of Eagan, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval; daughter, Shirley Swenson; five infant children; two sisters; and six brothers.
