Some of the oldest children were born at home with the next door neighbor Nora Grimm delivering the baby and she stayed to help out afterwards. Myrtle worked in the potato field picking potatoes.

She loved gardening, canning, fishing, blueberry picking, cooking, when her husband had dairy cattle, she would sneak some milk or cream to make butter, cottage cheese and ice cream. When they had other threshers helping, she would cook for them too. She loved to make things like homemade quilts and give to her children or a friend and enjoyed knitting too. Myrtle also enjoyed singing, dancing, talking on the phone, playing cards, and watching TV. She was a kind, caring and giving person.
