Obituary

Myrtle Vandestreek, 90, died on Tuesday, January 08, 2008 at the Thief River Care Center.

Myrtle Johnson was born on February 8, 1917 to Ole and Jennie (Williamson) Johnson in Halma, MN. She was baptized in Halma and confirmed in Lancaster in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Halma and McKinley Country School. She stayed at home after finishing school and helped raise her brothers and sisters.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Oscar Leonard Eggerud in 1936 in Hallock. They made their home near Lancaster, MN. Myrtle was a typical farmers wife and mother. She helped with the barn chores, field chores, and raised her children. Her husband Oscar died in 1962. Myrtle continued raising her family in the Lancaster area and then moved the family to Thief River Falls in 1966. Myrtle worked at Model Laundry in Thief River Falls for many years.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Edward Vandestreek on May 26, 1972 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Thief River Falls until 1979. They lived in Oregon for five years and then returned to Minnesota.

Myrtle enjoyed crocheting, quilting, ceramic doll making, and sewing. She helped her neighbors paint their barns and houses. She always had a lending hand. She was an active mother and grandmother who helped make sure things got done. She and Ed made several afghans for the family and friends. Myrtle was good with her hands and enjoyed working with them.

Myrtle is survived by her husband Edward Vandestreek, Thief River Falls, MN; 3 children: Millie (John) Thorstad, Thief River Falls, MN, Jean (Diane) Eggerud, Thief River Falls, MN, Eunice (Wesley) Rud, Thief River Falls, MN; 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 3 step children, Alan Vandestreek, Jasper, NY, Lana (Tim) Bulger, Thief River Falls, MN, Sheryl (Tim) Danielson, Fertile, MN; 10 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Raymond (Rose Martin) Johnson, Strandquist, MN, Ole Johnson, Strandquist, Ted (Alma) Johnson, Thief River Falls, Marvin Johnson, Astoria, OR;

She was preceded in death by her first husband Oscar, 3 brothers, Ernest, infant boy, Vance, 2 sisters, Edna Johnson, Ann Yonke, 1 son Orville Eggerud, 1 granddaughter Kyja Rud, 1 great grandson Axel Noreikis.
