Obituary

Naomi Peterson, 94, died Monday September 17, 2012 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Bert Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Clara Cemetery, Hazel, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Naomi Ida Charlotte Johnson was born on March 31, 1918 in Hazel, MN the daughter of Bror Theodore and Emma Louise (Brink) Johnson. She attended 1st through 8th grade at Hazel, 9th through 10th grade at St. Hilaire, 11th through 12th grade at North Star School in Warren, MN, and then Naomi spent 2 years at Gustavous Adolphus in St. Peter, MN. She then returned home to take care of her father following the death of her mother. On November 18, 1945, Naomi was united in marriage to Earl H. Peterson at Clara Lutheran Church, Hazel, MN. They made their home on the Peterson family farm in Wyandotte Township of Pennington County and to this union three children were born, David, Ruth, and Stuart. They owned and operated a cattle and grain farm. Naomi worked as bookkeeper for the Grygla Co-op Store for a short time; later worked as a bookkeeper at Peterson Biddick, and then as a welder at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. She served as Wyandotte Township treasurer for 25 years and volunteered in the gift shop at Northwest Medical Center. Naomi was a homemaker, her passion was her family. She enjoyed reading her Bible, fishing, gardening, walked 2 miles every day; she mowed her 2 ½ acres well in to her 80's, loved the outdoors, and always considered Sunday a day of rest. Naomi was a member of the Wyandotte Homemakers, taught Sunday school, was Sunday School Superintendent, and was a member of the Clara Lutheran Church and when it was closed became a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Following the death of her husband Earl in 1979, Naomi enjoyed attending the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls. Survivors include 3 loving children, David A. Peterson, Ruth (Dennis) Pederson, and Stu (Margaret) Peterson all of Thief River Falls; 9 grandchildren, Heidi (Brian) Ames, Danielle Rabou, Summer (Bobby) Stringer, Steven Pederson, Shawna (Jim) Aman, Shelli (Shannon) Henrickson, Alicia (James) Kieckbusch, Ashley (fiancé, Jordan Haugen) Peterson and Tanner Peterson; 9 great-grandchildren, Isabelle Ames, Brandon Stringer, Ethan Stringer, Calvin Pederson, Hally Aman, Colby Aman, Kenzi Aman, Tyler Kieckbusch, and Easton Kieckbusch; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; brother, Rev. Roderick Johnson and sister, Mary Jane Sawdey. Family condolences may be sent at www.johnsonfuneralservice.com
