Naomi Sweno, 84, died Wednesday October 3, 2012 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Trail, MN with Dawn Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Friday, October 5, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday. Naomi Constance Marie Sweno was born September 30, 1928 daughter of the late Herman Oscar and Marie (Hillstad) Peterson at the family farm north of Trail, MN where she was raised and attended rural school. She worked for neighbor's house cleaning and taking care of whatever was asked of her. On November 5, 1946 she was united in marriage to Carl Melvin Sweno at Fischer, MN. The couple moved into the Sweno home farm which was homesteaded in 1898 where they lived, raised their family and farmed raising grain and cattle. Naomi loved to garden and raise flowers. She baked bread 3 or 4 times a week and was an awesome cook. She enjoyed a good game of Yatzee or cards. She went shopping at least once a week, watched RFD TV Saturday night listening to the old time music. Naomi always had an open door and would always have the coffee on, had a great sense of humor. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and served on the ladies aid there for many years, she would read the bible every night and had read it 13 times. She was a giving person who would help anyone, including taking care of her father for many years. Naomi always remembered the kids and grandkids and family's birthdays. She is survived by her sons Clary (Judith) Sweno at Embarrass, MN; David (Mary) Sweno at Oklee, MN; Richard (Gwendolyn) Sweno at Lebanon, MO; and Daryl (Lori) Sweno at Erskine, MN: 20 grandchildren Michael, Gary, Sheryl, Coni, Cari, Debbie, Polly, Dawn, JoLee, Riki, Shane, Ian, Colby, Landon, Bryon, Kristy, Marcy, Tami, Erik and Michelle: 42 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters Evelyn Bergerson of Gully, MN; Bernice Thronson of Flint, MI; Ralph (Kathy) Peterson of Seattle, WA; LeRoy (Beverly) Peterson of Halfway, MO and Susan James of Hamlake, MN along with several nieces and nephews. Naomi is preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, infant daughter Diane Marie Sweno and infant son Ronald Dean Sweno and brothers Oscar and Orville Peterson.
