Norma Helm of Newfolden, MN, age 68, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN. A Funeral service to celebrate the life of Norma Helm will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 14, 2013 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. Norma Irene Filipi was born in Crookston, MN on April 3, 1944 the daughter of Elmer B. and Henrietta (Kliner) Filipi. She was raised on the family farm near Tabor, MN and attended country school near Tabor and graduated from NWSA at Crookston, MN in March of 1962. On October 27, 1962, Norma was united in marriage to Dennis Helm at Tabor, MN. They made their home on a farm near Angus, MN and at this time they were blessed with a daughter, Denise. In 1968 they moved to the Newfolden area and in 1971 they purchased a farm in West Valley Township, Marshall County and while living here they were blessed with a son, Terry. Together they continued to raise their family and enjoy their years on the farm. She worked at the nursing homes in Warren, Thief River Falls and Karlstad, MN. Norma also worked at Rose's Café in Newfolden; and worked at Arctic Cat in the sewing department for many years. She was very interested in crocheting, sewing, quilt making, and she really enjoyed her grandchildren. Norma enjoyed attending and being part of New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN and traveling with Dennis and Bill Helm and their band. Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Dennis of Newfolden, MN; daughter, Denise (Brian) Laymon and grandsons, Keaton & Colton all of Warren, MN; son, Terry (Heather) Helm and grandson, Bridger & granddaughter, Hailie stationed in Germany; Norma's brother and sisters are Tony & Jeanette Filipi, Yvonne & LeRoy Vonasek, Jane & Pat Novak, Aldon & Janice Filipi, Lana & Gary Corwin, Lance Filipi and Lois Filipi; and many other relatives and all of Dennis's family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer & Henrietta Filipi; and Dennis's parents, Lloyd & Esther Helm.
