Obituary

Norman Hanson was born November 26, 1923 in Star Township, Pennington County, MN, the son of Gilbert and Julia (Kriel) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church near Trail, MN. He attended District 167 Country School and also attended school in Goodridge.

Norman was united in marriage to MaDonna Lundeen, October 19, 1949 at Oak Park Lutheran Church in Deer Park Township of Pennington County. Together they had four children, Roger, Diane, Barry and Vanessa.

Norman worked construction-building bridges and also worked to re-channel a river in Owatonna, MN and also worked the mines in the Hibbing, MN area. In 1970, he went to work for Thief River Falls High School as a lead custodian and retired there in 1989.

On December 26, 1972 Norman was united in marriage to Colleen Mary Ann Ward in Sisseton, SD. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Mary Ann died on January 7, 2000.

Norman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagles in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, driving around in his Chevy truck and most of all, spending time with family, especially his grandkids. He liked to play cribbage, liked to tinker and always had a project going. He was a perfectionist. Things always had to be right.

Survived by children, Roger (Linda Crompton), Big Lake, MN, Diane (Mike) Jury, Thief River Falls, MN, Barry, Wannaska, MN, Vanessa (Steve) Appel, Thief River Falls, MN, Mike (Jackie) Olson, St. Hilaire, MN and Marilyn (John) Deforest, San Diego, CA; 14 grandchildren, Allan, Ann, Missy, Arne, Ashley, Joe, Matt, Kristi, Kelly, Corey, Shannon, Jonathan, Kelsey and Stacy; 6 great grandchildren, Megan, Sydney, Torie, Taylor, Tyler, Kaylee; brothers and sister, Alfred (Alvina) Hanson, Thief River Falls, MN, Verner (Mildred) Arveson, Oklee, MN and Gunder (Kitty) Hanson, Detroit Lakes, MN; brother-in-law, Buzz (Lucille) Ward, Fordville, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by wife, Colleen in 2000; great granddaughter, Karli; parents; sister, Alma Brown; brothers, Goodwin and Herman Hanson.
