Obert Grovum, 94, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, April 11, 2003 at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN, with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Valley Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Obert Grovum was born August 20, 1907, in Eckvold Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Ole and Tilda (Rue) Grovum. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended Eckvold Township School. Obert worked for the Red River Dairy, using a horse and cart, to deliver milk in glass bottles. He also was employed in the mines on the Iron Range.

On October 22, 1932, Obert was united in marriage to Evelyn Wold in Thief River Falls, MN. He was a life long farmer. The couple made their home in Grygla, MN until 1968 and then moved to Mavie, MN. In 1998, the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Obert resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls for half a year and then entered Oakland Park Nursing Home for 2 years.

Obert was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and Church Council. He also held membership in the Farmers Union and served on the Valley Township Board. He liked to garden and ice fish. He especially enjoyed family gatherings.

Survived by wife, Evelyn; son, David (Elaine) Grovum, Thief River Falls, MN and several nephews and nieces.

Preceded in death by parents, a sister, Julia Steenerson, 7 brothers, Tom, Gilmer, Alec, Henry, Jorgen and Palmer in infancy. Also nephews and nieces.
