Obituary

Ola Byklum was born on April 30, 1912 in Beltrami County, Minnesota, the son of K. O. and Gunhild (Nesland) Byklum. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and attended Country School. He entered the United States Army on July 21, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged on November 19, 1945. He served in Central Europe, Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France and Rhineland. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Ola farmed, hauled cattle for Paul Saurdiff, worked as a plumber in Grafton, ND and also worked for Grygla Sanitation Department for years.

Ola loved to visit and tell stories, especially war experiences he had in World War 11.

He was a life member of the VFW and former Mayor of Grygla.

Ola is survived by three nieces: Bernice (Donald) Lenhart of Thief River Falls, MN, Mae (Mervyn) Clausen of Aitkin, MN and Myrna (Darrel) Anderson of Warroad, MN; and one nephew, Dennis (Arlene) Mootz of Elk River, MN and several friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Oliver Byklum; sister, Gena Mootz-Clausen; niece, Beverly Leach; great niece, Veronica Safranski and great great nephew, Bradley Safranski.
