Ole Byklum, 93, died on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Grygla, MN with Reverend Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Ole Byklum, Jr. was born on January 24, 1914 in Grygla, MN, the son of Ole T. and Thora (Nesland) Byklum, Sr. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and attended Country School in Spruce Township, Beltrami County, MN.
Ole entered the United States Army during World War II, serving on a ship that took care of the generators aboard. He sailed to places such as the Philippines, Allution Islands, California and Hawaii.
Ole returned from the war was united in marriage to Ingeborg Johnson on March 23, 1946. The couple bought their first farm in Benville Township and then bought a farm in Spruce Grove Township, where they farmed small grains and had milk cows. Ole and Ingeborg were married for 58 years. He also drove school bus for nine years. Ole helped farm until he was 90 years old and entered the nursing home in May of 2005.
Ole enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling, riding his 4 wheeler and Sunday drives after his nap. He was a handy man and mechanic, who could fix anything. Ole was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Ole is survived by three children: Linda (Wes) Skibicki of Thief River Falls, MN, Orvis (Marilou) Byklum of Grygla, MN and Richard Byklum of Grygla, MN; six grandchildren: Lynn (Sharon) Skibicki, Stacie (Bob) Grant, Ryan (special friend, Bonnie) Skibicki, Jessica Byklum, Lisa Byklum and Kevin Byklum; three great grandchildren: Joe Skibicki, Bella Grant and Brooke Grant; and one sister, Tilda Byklum of Thief River Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg in 2004; one daughter, Joan Byklum; his parents; two sisters: Mae (Ed) Doeling and Gladys (Ed) Kolseuse; and one brother, Tellef Byklum.
