Obituary

Olive Rondorf, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN.

The memorial service to celebrate Olive's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Olive Louise Jorde was born February 3, 1923 in Excel Township, Marshall County, MN to Adolph O. and Ada Laura (Jacobson) Jorde.  She was baptized at home and confirmed in 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.  She attended rural Loftness School in Excel Township and attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1940. She was a graduate of Demming Beauty School in Grand Forks, ND. Olive did work for relatives, plus worked at the Oakland Park Sanitarium for one and a half years.

On June 26, 1946, Olive was united in marriage to LaVerne Laurel Rondorf at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage, Thief River Falls.  Their love story began when a relative suggested that Olive write letters to LaVerne while he served in the United States Army in World War II. To this union two children were born, Donald and Barbara. June 26 became "the family wedding date" as both Don and Barb married their spouses on that date, too.

LaVerne and Olive farmed "on the ridge" in Excel Township for 22 years. After LaVerne retired, Olive helped him with custodial duties at Trinity Lutheran for five years.  In 1996, LaVerne suffered a stroke and they moved to Valley Home, then later to Oakland Park.  Olive's family would like to thank the staff at both Valley Home and Oakland Park for their excellent care of them.

Olive was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, an active member of "West Steiner" Homemakers Club and Steiner Community Club.  She loved to cook, bake, work on crafts and hand work, and gardening. They often had as many as 65 tomato plants and other produce which she shared with family and friends. Plus, she gave the best hugs ever.

She is survived by daughter: Barbara (William) Pon, Norfolk, VA; daughter-in-law: Pam Rondorf, Seward, NE; three grandchildren: Tyson Rondorf (fiancé Gayle), Jeremy (Sara) Rondorf, Rebecca (Ben) Goheen, three great-grandchildren: Belén, Frank, Walter; three step-great-grandchildren: Miah, Will, Nate; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Olive was preceded in death by her husband: LaVerne (June 8, 2006); son: Don (December 13, 2020), parents; brothers: Clifford, Leonard at two-years-old, Clarence and Olaf Jorde, Dale and Kenneth Ranum, sister: Clara Mae Swanson.

Olive's family would like to express their deep appreciation to Richard and Sharon Jorde, Lee and Carole Johnson, Ellen Lindseth, and Sandy Kvien for their tender, loving care of Ollie over the years. She always enjoyed visits from friends and family.
