Obituary

Ordell Adkins East Grand Forks, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN age 73 died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. The Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Ordell Adkins will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ordell Esme Helgenset was born on January 2, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Ernest and Pearl (Furuseth) Helgenset. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Ordell attended schools in Thief River Falls graduating from Lincoln High School in 1958. She then attended Metro State University in St. Paul, MN earning a BA in Human Services. On August 13, 1958, Ordell was united in marriage to Caylor Adkins in Gardena, CA. To this union two children were born, Steven and Kristen. Among her many jobs, Ordell worked at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for four years and at Glenmore in Thief River Falls for 8 years. Ordell enjoyed sewing, gardening, helping others, and visiting with family, friends, and complete strangers. She was a member of the PTA, the Long Beach Coordinating Council, and chaired the School Community Advisory Council at Willard School. She later co-founded a local multiple sclerosis support group after relocating back to TRF Survivors include two children, Steven Adkins and Kristen Seydel; three grandchildren, Sarah Montoya, Samantha (Dave) Richardson and Caylor Adkins; brother, Rodney (Lee) Helgenset; sister, Betty (Sada) Honda; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pearl Helgenset; grandparents, Ole and Sophia Helgenset and Peder and Johanna Furuseth; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Accompanist, Phyllis Dalager Special Music, Chris Cuppett & Rev. Terri Cuppett Selections, "In The Garden", "One Day At A Time", "On Eagle's Wings" Scripture for bulletin, Psalm 23 In lieu of flowers Ordell requested that contributions be made to the MS Society or the Oakridge Lutheran Church of rural TRF.
