Orris "Slim" Stengrim, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Pastor Dennis Gray officiating.  Interment will follow at the Alma Lutheran Cemetery, rural Argyle, MN.  Following interment, a luncheon will be served at Alma Lutheran Church.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at the funeral home.

Orris "Slim" Stengrim was born on April 18, 1947, the son of Herbert and Annie (Haug) Stengrim.  He grew up on a farm east of Argyle, along the Great Eastern.  Slim attended country school and later attended school in Warren, MN, graduating from high school from Argyle, MN, in 1966.  After graduation he attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls where he became a credited welder.

While attending school he worked for Amundgaard Implement in Thief River Falls as a set-up and delivery person.

Upon completion of his welding course at the AVTI he was hired at Wennberg Welding as a multi-purpose welder.  He was known throughout the surrounding area for his skills as an aluminum welder.  He also made hockey nets that were sent throughout the United States.  While working at Wennberg's they received a call to make and ship a set of nets to be used in a Stanley Cup playoff game as the nets they had were not regulation size.

On November 27, 1970 Orris married Mary Edgar in Tabor, MN.  To this union four boys were born – David, Timothy, Jeffrey, and Ryan.

On March 29, 1984 Orris suffered a disabling stroke and spent three months between hospital and rehab to recuperate.  He had to learn all the basic skills over but was never able to continue work.

Due to decreased health issues, Orris moved to Valley Assisted Living in Thief River Falls in May of 2019.  In June of 2022 Orris moved to Oakland Park where he spent his last days.

Orris's favorite pastimes were doing lawn work, having coffee at Hardee's and Arby's, riding his bike and electric scooters, visiting with friends, and collecting anything that caught his eye.

Orris is survived by his loving wife Mary of 51 years; sons David (Kari) of Brainerd, MN, Timothy (Special Friend, Michelle Rose) of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeffrey (Laura) of Thief River Falls, MN, and Ryan (Pam) of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Kalvin, Kade, Katie (Special Friend, Jake), Andrew, Matt (Special Friend, Kelly), Gweneth, Miller, Caleb, and Tristen; great-grandchildren Maddilynn, Addison, Kimber, Kami, Anthony, and Kaden; brothers Roy (Shirley) Stengrim of Newfolden, MN, Marvin Stengrim of Grafton, ND, Glen Stengrim of Mississippi; sister Jean (Ralph) Edgar of Lansdale, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Arlyn (Judy) Stengrim.
