Orvald Rokke, age 83, of Bemidji, MN, formerly of Newfolden, MN, passed away at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN, surrounded by loving family on Friday, October 30. 2015. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 6, 2015 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery of New Solum, rural Newfolden, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church. Orvald Emery Rokke was born June 14, 1932 at home in rural Newfolden, MN. He was second of eight children and first son born to Oscar and Esther (Aanenson) Rokke. Orvald was baptized at the Folden Church east of Newfolden and confirmed at Bethesda Church. He attended Elementary and high school in Newfolden, but finished at the Crookston, MN AC School. He worked on the family farm until 1953 when he entered into the US Army and was stationed in Washington and Alaska. After returning from the Army in 1955, he went back to work on the family farm. In 1965 he went to work at American Crystal Sugar in Drayton, ND from where he retired in 1990. On October 19, 1957, Orvald married Gloria (Langlie) and purchased a small farm of his own near the family farm where they have lived until recently. They had four children: Bruce, Dean, DelRay, and Kim. Orvald was a charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Middle River American Legion Post #444 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2368. Orvald enjoyed watching the news, visiting with friends and family, talking politics, and deer hunting. Together, Orvald and Gloria enjoyed many road trips all around northern Minnesota. He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He attended many gatherings for family and friends. Orvald is survived by his loving wife, Gloria of Bemidji, MN and their four children, Bruce (Debbie) of Nekoosa, WI, Dean (Linda) of Bemidji, MN, DelRay (Barbara) of Maplewood, MN, and Kim (Aaron) Peterson of Bemidji, MN; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; extended step family of five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters, Evangeline Teigen of East Grand Forks, Bonnie (Gilmen) Tinnes of Bemidji, MN, and Carol (Robert) Boothby of Eden Prairie, MN; one brother, Kermit of Plymouth, MN, one sister-in-law, Kathy Rokke of Newfolden ,MN; one brother-in-law, Leo Grochow of Cloquet, MN, in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Orvald was preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers, Neil and Dale; sister, Barbara; granddaughter, Brandi, and great-granddaughter, Kami Jo. Memorials preferred to the American Legion Post #444 Funeral Fund or American Legion Family Hospital Association.
