Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1024 Tindolph Ave. S., Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor David Fish officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Ekelund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Orville John Holt was born on January 11, 1939 in Grafton, ND the son of Gustov and Margaret (Hoyum) Holt. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Orville attended the New Solum School House near Rosewood, MN and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN.
Orville entered into service with the United States Army in 1961. He was assigned to Hell On Wheels 2nd Armored Division and spent most of his enlistment at Ft. Hood, TX and also spent six months in Germany. Orville was Honorably Discharged on December 13, 1963.
On June 4, 1961, Orville was united in marriage to Barbara Olson at the First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union three children were born, Debbra, Linda and Allen. The family has made their home in Thief River Falls their entire lives.
Orville worked at Narverud Cleaners, Model Laundry and part-time at Digi-Key.
He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Orville was a 32 year member of American Legion Post #117 in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara of Thief River Falls; children, Debbra Filpula of Thief River Falls, Linda (Stacey) Monkman of Roseau, MN and Allen (Nichole) Holt of Red Lake Falls, MN; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Monkman, Christopher Holt, Lora Filpula, Seth Monkman, DeAnn Filpula, Parker Holt, Brady Bulger and Olivia Bulger; great-grandchild, Teodoro Holt; sister, Gloria Rux of Thief River Falls; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gustov and Margaret Holt; and brother-in-law, Delmar Rux.
