Orville Joppru of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Thief River Care Center, with his family by his side at the age of 91.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass on Sunday at the church.
Orville Joppru was born on December 12, 1924 on the family farm in Marshall County, MN, the son of Oscar and Tillie (Bergland) Joppru. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. He attended Northrup Elementary, Central School and Lincoln High School.
After school, Orville worked on the family farm and also worked at the Land O' Lakes Creamery.
On December 26, 1945, Orville was united in marriage to Marian Deloris Wiener at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union, eight children were born, Orrin, Larry, Karen, Peggy, Steven, Vicky, Jeff, and Sherry.
Orville worked for his brother, Melvin Joppru for about 20 years on the farm and in the sale barn. He then worked the meat truck for Joppru Meats for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed helping with spring and fall work for the Joppru Farms.
Orville was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Together they enjoyed traveling to visit with family and friends and gardening.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Marian of Thief River Falls; children, Orrin (Linda) Joppru of Thief River Falls, Larry (Jordis) Joppru of Grand Forks, ND, Karen (Wes) Nelson of Madison, SD, Peggy (Carl) Seed of Thief River Falls, Vicky (Wayne) Malwitz of Plummer, MN, Jeff (Rhonda) Joppru of Thief River Falls, and Sherry (Jim) Schiefert of Plummer, MN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Kay) Joppru; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; and siblings, Alma Oen, Ted Joppru, Alfred Joppru, Ole Joppru, Art Joppru, Margaret Taylor, Melvin Joppru, Sander Joppru and Clarence Joppru.
