Obituary

Orville Peterson,70,died Friday, September 22, 2006 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND


Funeral service will be 11 AM, Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at Sand Valley Lutheran Church, Trail, MN, with Pastor Michael Sletto officiating. Burial will be at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Trail, MN.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Monday, September 25, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Oklee, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Tuesday.


Orville Herbert Peterson was born November 22, 1935, to parents Herman Emanuel and Marie Josephine (Hillestad) Peterson, on the family farm in Johnson Township, Polk County, MN. He attended school at Plainview and Poplar Isle country schools and later at the Trail and Oklee schools. He farmed with his dad on the home farm, also renting some neighboring farm land. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for a number of years.

On May 11, 1957, Orville married Lois Eck. Six children were born to this union, Daniel, Bruce, Steve, Mark, Renae and Vicki. The couple bought a farm in Chester Township. Orville worked for 45 years at American Crystal Sugar up to the present time, until ill health had him hospitalized.

He liked farming, hunting, restoring and fixing Massey tractors and card playing.

Orville is survived by special friend, Mary Jean Altendorf; his children: Daniel, McIntosh, MN, Bruce (Denise), Oklee, MN, Steven, Grand Forks, ND, Mark, Fosston, MN, Renae Peterson, Fosston, MN and Vicki Peterson, Mill Valley, CA; 6 grandchildren: Nickie Martinson, Jason, Sarah, Angie and Dustin Peterson and Shane Nelson; 5 great grandchildren: Jayden, Jereck, Kole, Hannah and Brenna 4 sisters: Naomi Sweno, Trail, MN, Bernice Thronson, Burton, MI, Susan (Al) James, Ely, MN, Evelyn (Kenneth) Bergerson, Gully, MN, 2 brothers, Ralph (Kathleen) Peterson, Auburn, WA and LeRoy (Beverly) Peterson, Bolivar, MO; a number of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents, a sister in infancy and brother, Oscar.
