Orvin L. Sunsdahl, loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Thief River Falls, MN, died on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. He was 82 years, 5 months, and 6 days. May his memory be blessed. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, MN with Reverend Bob Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Goodridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday at the church. Orvin Laverne Sunsdahl was born at home in Erie Township, Pennington County, Minnesota on November 17, 1929 to John and Mary (Raush) Sunsdahl. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith. Orvin walked to country school near his home in Erie Township. After school he worked for area farmers, including Wiseth Farms. He worked for a number of years at Agassiz Wildlife Refuge performing a variety of jobs such as planting small grains for the wildlife, taking care of the roads, and maintenance. Orvin raised hogs, was a small grain farmer and had a pig route. On September 24, 1955 Orvin was united in marriage to Myrtle Johnson at the Parsonage at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Walter Peterson officiating. They are blessed with four children: Gwen, Gail, Geniel, and Gerald. In 1964 Orvin and Myrtle purchased his parent's farm where they raised their family, hogs, and farmed for many years. After selling their farm in 2010, Orvin and Myrtle made their home at Greenleaf Senior Living in Thief River Falls. Orvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and doing anything outdoors. Orvin's pride and joy was his red pickup. He enjoyed going for drives, looking at the fields, and wildlife. As Grandpa, his grandkids were so important to him. He loved family gatherings and the good food. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting with family and friends over a good cup of coffee. He was a long-time, proud member of the Goodridge Lions Club. Orvin was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Myrtle of Thief River Falls, MN; children, Gwen (Roger) Blaine of Goodridge, MN, Gail (Donald) Wilkens of Thief River Falls, MN, Geniel (Michael) Schroeder of Ayr, ND, and Gerald (Kathy) of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Brandon Blaine of Grygla, MN, Shane Wilkens (Mischawn Homme) of Goodridge, MN, Amber (Jason) Homme of Bemidji, MN, Kelsey Wilkens (Tommy Greelis) of Thief River Falls, MN, Jared (Cady) of Oahu, Hawaii, Heather Sunsdahl (Shane Peterson) of Thief River Falls, MN, Allison Sunsdahl of Cedar Park, TX, Erick (Lindsey) Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN, Michaela Peterson (Andrew Miller) of Thief River Falls, MN, and Kris (Wayne) Braun of Newberg, OR; Great-grandchildren, Taylor Blaine, McKenna Blaine, Morgan Sundrud, Payton Homme, Braxton Homme, Preston Troumbly, Madison Sunsdahl, Maegan Sunsdahl, Rebekah Sunsdahl, Blayke Sunsdahl, Rylee Manning, Camdyn Peterson, Alex Braun, Nick Braun and Taylor Braun; brother, Junior (Maxine) Sunsdahl of Blaine, MN; sister, Diane (Harlan) Sunsdahl of Neilsville, WI; brother-in-law, Bud Race of Goodridge, MN; his special caregiver, Barb Hanson. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter in infancy; granddaughters, Bridget Blaine and baby girl Blaine; his parents; sisters, Junas Race, and Delores Marquis (husband, Donald).
