Oscar Flateland, 92, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN.

Funeral service will be AT 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2006 at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Pastor Mike Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Sand Valley Cemetery, Trail, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Oscar Flateland was born on February 4, 1914 on the Family Farm in Trail, MN, the son of Ole and Anna (Sagnesgar) Flateland. He attended rural school and High School in Fosston. Oscar farmed with his father north of Trail. He entered the United States Army on February 25, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged on October 14, 1945.

Following his discharge Oscar was united in marriage to Helen Reitter in Madison, WI. The couple farmed southeast of Oklee until 1959. He was also a carpenter in the area until 1976, when he retired. They moved into Oklee in 1968 and have resided there ever since.

Oscar enjoyed reading, fishing, playing cards, bowling and playing music.

He was a member of the V.F.W. in Trail, on the Chester Township Board and was very active in the church in Trail.

Oscar is survived by his sons Byron (Jill) Flateland, Arvada, CO, Myles (Beverly) Flateland, Vergas, MN; grandchildren Kirsten (Tim) Sielaff, Arvada, CO, Crystal Flateland, Arvada, CO; sisters Lola, Minneapolis, MN; sister in law Leona Brekke, Oklee, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1989, parents, brothers Knute, Ole and Ted and sister, Bergit Gunderson.
