Obituary

Oscar Mossestad, 92, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.


Oscar Lewis Mossestad was born August 27, 1913 in Numedahl Township, Pennington County, MN, the son of Julius and Anna (Brateng) Mossestad. He was baptized August 31, 1913 and confirmed November 27, 1927 at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Pennington County. Oscar enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps, on January 5, 1935. He was stationed in Bena, MN. After his honorable discharge on July 23, 1935, he went to Fort Peck, MT and worked on the dam.

On March 18, 1939, Oscar was united in marriage to Ruby Anderson at St. Hilaire, MN.

He farmed in Numedahl Township. In 1945, the couple moved to Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, MN, where he farmed and did carpentry work. In 1952, Oscar drove to Anchorage, AK, where he did carpentry work for a few months. In 1969, they sold their farm and moved to Thief River Falls, where he became caretaker at Skylite Apartments until he retired in 1980. Oscar married Edna Wendel, July 12, 1980 in Thief River Falls, MN.

Oscar was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. He served on the School Board, District 125, Wyandotte Township Board and served on the church council at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN, his former church. He was an avid outdoor sportsman, who enjoyed trapping, hunting geese and deer, fishing and camping. After retirement, he built spinning wheels, chairs tables, etc. He enjoyed working with wood.

Oscar is survived by wife, Edna, Thief River Falls, MN; 4 children, Carole (Vernon) Konickson, Red Lake Falls, MN, Sharon (Larry) Efteland, Thief River Falls, MN, Orvis (Donna) Mossestad, Plummer, MN and Arlys (Roger) Konickson, Plummer, MN; 3 stepchildren, Sharon (Bill) Hoglo, Thief River Falls, MN, James (Farryle) Wendel, Grimes, IA and John (Barbara) Wendel, Lino Lakes, MN; 11 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; 1 great great-step grandchild; 2 brothers, Donald (Mona) Mossestad, Oroville, CA and Stanley (Eunice) Mossestad, Apache Junction, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by wife, Ruby in 1978; a daughter in infancy; parents; sisters, Hilda Cater, Louise Battenfeld, Agnes Selvog and Lillian Braun; brothers, Art, George, Oliver and Vernon Mossestad; and a granddaughter, Brenda Konickson.
