Oscar Wickstrom, 93, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Hillcrest Senior Living, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 1 PM, Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will be at Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be 12 " 1 PM before the service, Sunday.
Oscar Erick Wickstrom was born March 10, 1916, in Glenlivit, SD, the son of Oscar A. and Anna (Johannson) Wickstrom. He moved with his family to Plummer, MN at the age of 5 and attended school at Plummer. On November 6, 1941, Oscar entered the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, MN and served his county stationed at Papua, New Guinea. He received his honorable discharge on October 31, 1945. Oscar was very ill and following his discharge, took a long time to recover.
After his service, he moved to the family farm near Plummer. After his fathers death, he took over the farm where he lived until 2000. The last 3 years Oscar lived at Hillcrest.
Oscar was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, the American Legion of Plummer and Thief River Falls VFW. He liked to read, play cards in Plummer and go to the casino.
He is survived by a sister, Mae Heggar, Grand Forks, ND, a sister-in-law, Viola Wickstrom, Oak Creek, WI along with several nieces and nephews.
Oscar was preceded in death by parents; sisters Ann McCook and Olga Amundson; brothers Gust, Harold and Victor Wickstrom; brother-in-laws Richard McCook, Otto Amundson and Elmer Heggar
