Owen Scramstad Thief River Falls, MN, 92, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Owen Simon Scramstad was born on January 28, 1921 in Marshall County, MN the son of Duffy and Minnie (Johnson) Scramstad. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He attended Knox Elementary and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN graduating in 1940. As a young man, Owen worked at Jung's Bakery, Hartz Foods and Kiewel Bottling all of Thief River Falls. On November 1, 1941, Owen was united in marriage to Madeleine Louise Gjernes in the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple lived in Thief River Falls for sometime before moving to Ogden, Utah where Owen worked as a civilian instructor at Hill Air Field. The couple returned to Thief River Falls in 1943 and in 1952 they moved to Manhattan Beach, CA where Owen worked at Air Research Corp. In 1969 they returned to Thief River Falls where he represented Lincoln National Life Insurance Company until retiring in 1987. While living in California, Owen and Madeleine were members of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was council president and active in scouting. Owen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls where he also served as council president. He was active in the Sons of Norway, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and was a representative on the Council For Aging, and president of the Heritage Center. Owen enjoyed golfing, ice fishing, playing cards, deer hunting, snowmobiling and watching classic westerns and movies on TV. Survivors include sons, Richard (partner, David Stocum) Scramstad and David (Patricia) Scramstad all of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Christine (Ryan) Kezar, Mitchell (Wendy) Scramstad, Katie (Jesse) Nelson, Jennifer (Joseph) Lawson; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kennett, Camryn, Hayley, Kayla, Lydia, Wade, and Joseph IV; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Madeleine; parents; brother, Oscar Scramstad; sister, Della Rockstad, and special friend, Helen Disse.
