Obituary

Paul Tangquist, 67, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Sanford Health Systems in Fargo, ND surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Jim Robberstad officiating.  Burial will be held at the Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 5:30 PM prayer service on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at the church.

Paul Lannoye Tangquist was born on January 4, 1944 in Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Clarence and Esther (Larson) Tangquist.  He was dedicated, baptized, and confirmed at the Viking Covenant Church.  He attended Viking Elementary School and graduated from Newfolden High School in the class of 1962.

Paul worked various jobs after high school including, the Hartz Store in Thief River Falls, Lakehead Pipeline, American Crystal Sugar, and for local farmers.

On November 5, 1966, Paul was united in marriage to Evadell Deloris Espe in Roseau, MN.  To this union 3 children were born, Jason, Sarah, and Mark.  They made their home in Roseau; on November 25, 1966,  Paul entered into service with the United States Army.  He served in Louisiana, Georgia, Indiana; and one year in Vietnam.  Paul was Honorably Discharged on November 27, 1969.  Upon his return, Paul and Evadell made their home in Thief River Falls.

In January of 1970, Paul was hired with the United States Postal Services where he worked for the next 22 years.  In 1991, Paul went to work for Hardees in Thief River Falls for a short time; and in 1992 went to work for Digi-Key Corporation where he retired from in June of 2010.

Paul had a deep love and commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls and is currently a member of the Viking Covenant Church.  He served in various positions including deacon, usher, board member, trustee, Sunday School superintendent and teacher.  He also had a passion for and was an active board member of Bluewater Covenant Bible Camp in Grand Rapids.  Paul was a current member of the American Legion Post and a charter member of the Kiwanis in Thief River Falls.  He was very active in his community as a volunteer and dedicated much of his time serving and helping others.

Paul enjoyed life and loved to have fun and laugh with his family and friends.  He especially appreciated spending time with his family and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed antiquing/collecting, golf, music, bowling, traveling, bird watching, gardening, fishing, picking berries, and liked to refinish furniture in his spare time.  Paul rarely sat still!

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Evadell of Thief River Falls; sons, Jason (Renee) Tangquist of Crookston, MN and Mark (Elizabeth) Tangquist of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Elise, Easton, Brannon, Kajsa, and Greta; siblings, DeLoris (Lloyd) Rafteseth of Moorhead, MN, Ardelle (Hal) Anderson of Viking, MN and Dwight (Linda) Tangquist of Thief River Falls, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Paul is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sarah Beth; and his parents.

Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend, and will be deeply missed.
