Paul Wold of Viking, MN age 68 died suddenly on Friday, October 30, 2015 at his home while tending to his yard. A gathering time to celebrate the life of Paul Wold will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Viking Covenant Church in Viking, MN with Pastor Jim Robberstad officiating. Paul Benhard Wold was born on February 2, 1947 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Benhard M. and Evelyn M. (Peterson) Wold. He was confirmed as a child and baptized on August 20, 1972 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls. Paul attended schools in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1965. On December 8, 1967, Paul entered into service with the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Washington. He took medical training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and was later stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where Paul worked as Personal Servant for the commanding officer. He was Honorably Discharged on September 8, 1969. On August 15, 1970, Paul was united in marriage to Connie E. Grover at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union two children were born, Tracy and Trigg. During his high school years and after returning from military duty, Paul worked at Christensen Farms. He went to work at Popplers for a short time before taking over his parents' business, Wold's Holiday Motel. In 1982 they started selling Watkins products which they have continued to sell over the years. This is the reason they created a gift shop within the motel called the Holiday Souvenir and Gift Shop. In August of 1990 they closed the motel and relocated the gift shop in downtown Thief River Falls. In September of 1991 the family moved to Hallock, MN where they purchased the Valley Motel which they owned and operated for four years. In August of 1995 they moved to Viking, MN where they have continued to reside. In 2001, Paul started working at Digi-Key in Thief River Falls and retired from there in 2010. After moving to Viking, Paul and Connie were avid flea market/gun show/home show/craft show vendors. They sold Watkins products, Rada Cutlery, Fuller Brush and lots of other STUFF! Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, sewing, woodworking, gardening, playing games with grandkids, photography, collecting M & M paraphernalia, and singing in the Barbershop Chorus. He had a creative mind, was very resourceful, had a definite opinion, was fun loving, had a great sense of humor, was no stranger to hard work, had a zest for life, loved to visit, and he loved his family including their dogs. Paul enjoyed attending the Viking Covenant Church, served on the Viking City Council, was a volunteer fireman, and enjoyed volunteering and helping in the community.
