Obituary

Pearl Battleson of Thief River Falls, MN, 95, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Pearl Marie LaCoe was born on September 8, 1919 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Eugene and Matilda "Tillie" (Fontaine) LaCoe. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. She was raised and attended school in Thief River Falls. On May 16, 1938 Pearl was united in marriage to Duane Battleson by Rev. A.I. Merth at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union four children were born, Eugene, Gary, Duane Jr. and Peggy. Pearl and Duane had a mink farm along with his brother, Milton for a few years which they called the Battleson Fur Farm. In addition to raising her children, Pearl worked at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls as a nurse's aide. Pearl and Duane retired together and enjoyed traveling and spending their winter months in the warmer climate. She was an active member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and involved in the Ladies Circle. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 Auxiliary in Thief River Falls. Family and faith were very important. Pearl faithfully attended mass and recited the rosary frequently. In her younger years, Pearl enjoyed fishing and bird hunting with her family. She loved crocheting, baking, picnics, barbecues, and visiting with friends and family. Pearl spent her last five years at the Thief River Care Center. Survivors include her children, Eugene (Dolores) Battleson of Isle, MN, Gary (Pam) Battleson of Thief River Falls, MN, Duane "Booker" Battleson, Jr. of Ventura, CA, and Peggy (Jim) Brown of Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Rosilyn (Jim) Derhaag, Kim (Jeff) Langan, Rhonda (Chandra) Battleson, Bobbie Jo Bjergo, Amy Martin, Ryan Battleson, Elizabeth (Garin) Martin, Scott Battleson, Jennifer Brown, Tim Battleson; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including her roommate at Thief River Care Center, Betty Seymore. She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane on March 31, 1995; parents; and brothers, Ernest (Alvira) LaCoe and Bernard (Avis) LaCoe.
