Obituary

Peder Dake Furuseth, loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend was born January 13, 1947 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Paul Oscar Furuseth and Sadie Iris (Ayers) Furuseth. At the age of three, Peder and family moved from Thief River Falls to the family farm that would later become known as Paradise Acres, three miles west of town. There, he grew up with his five younger brothers. He participated in 4H, county fairs, choir, theater, HS newspaper, athletics, Junior Achievement and many other activities. He attended and graduated, as class president, from Lincoln High School in 1965. Peder treasured his time spent with his many aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends.

Peder valued education and learning. He attended The University of Minnesota, graduating with a B.A. in Psychology and Advertising Journalism. He married Mary (Healy) in February of 1970. After spending a couple years working with his father at the insurance company in Thief River Falls, he moved with his wife Mary and daughter Amy to Minneapolis and within a year, son Ben was born. Peder furthered his education, earning an M.B.A. in 1983 from the University of St. Thomas in St Paul, MN. He worked for many years as a marketing executive in Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, and Denver representing products like Spam, cell phones the size of bricks, and the Yellow Pages. Peder and Mary spent many years raising their family in Minneapolis, MN and later enjoying their hobby farms in Washington and Colorado.

Peder took the opportunity, that most do not, to pursue a second career. He made the choice to attend Pacifica Graduate Institute in California to earn his Masters in Counseling Psychology with emphasis in Depth Psychology.  Peder married Melissa (LaFlamme) in September of 2001. They lived in California as he prepared for his new career as a Jungian Psychotherapist. They moved to Denver, CO where he began his private practice, DepthWorks. For nearly 20 years, he helped many people through listening, sharing and caring. Peder truly had a passion for working with his clients.

Peder was a student of life, with many diverse interests, all of which he loved to talk about. He was just as interested in hearing about the opinions or interests of others, as he was about sharing his own, which is a rare trait. He loved to have conversations about family, grandchildren, gardening, poetry, cooking, canoeing, fishing, politics, roller-blading, psychology, Golden Gophers, the Montana State Bobcat mascot, reading, playing scrabble, family reunions, journaling and of, course, the countless games he and his brothers, cousins and neighbors loved to play on the family farm ballfield. Peder also loved to recite poetry and listen to good music. Peder was a dreamer and a dream tender.

Peder Furuseth died peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2023 in his home library in Denver, Colorado. In his last weeks, Peder enjoyed good stories, songs, food and life's theories surrounded by his children and grandchildren, as well as all five of his brothers and other family and friends.

Peder is survived by children, Amy and husband, Mark Pagel of Northfield, MN and Ben and wife, Brenda Furuseth of Prior Lake, MN: Grandchildren, Emerson, Alexander and Audrey Pagel and Whitney Furuseth, brothers, Steven (Arlene), Edward (Marlys), David (Michelle), Dale, and Lee (Jane). He is also survived by many, cousins, nieces, and nephews who were all a very important part of Peder's life. Peder was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Iris and many special aunts and uncles.

Peder was a long-time member of the Denver Botanical Gardens, where he enjoyed spending time sitting and reflecting in the scripture garden there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Denver Botanic Gardens,  in his name toward the memorial bench that we are dedicating in his honor.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Peder will be buried at Park Ridge Cemetery at a later date in his hometown of Thief River Falls, MN.
