Peter Gerszewski, 91, died on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793, and members of the Minnesota National Guard.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at church.

Peter Paul Gerszewski was born June 28, 1919 at Ardoch, Walsh County, ND, the son of Alexander and Stella (Paschke) Gerszewski. He was baptized at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, ND. He grew up and attended Ardoch Township School. The family moved to Argyle, MN in 1932 and Peter continued school there. He was a farm laborer for some time.

March 20, 1941, Peter entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the Medical Corps and was stationed in Wyoming, Canada, and England during World War II. Peter was honorably discharged October 11, 1945 and returned to Argyle, where he farmed.

On November 12, 1947, Peter was united in marriage to Frances Slominski at Warsaw, ND. The couple lived and farmed in Tamarac Township, Marshall County, MN. In 1956, they moved to Newfolden, MN and farmed in Holt Township. He also was employed at Land O Lakes Feed Mill, Thief River Falls, MN for 15 years and Marvin Windows, Warroad, MN for 7 years.

Peter was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church, the Eagles, American Legion and VFW, all Thief River Falls, MN.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Frances of Warren, MN; sons, Edward (Margaret Peggy ) Gerszewski of Bloomington, MN and Denis (Linda) Gerszewski of St. Louis Park, MN; granddaughter, Sara; grandson, Michael; brothers, William (Margaret) Gerszewski of Argyle, MN, Chester (Mary) Gerszewski of Minneapolis, MN, Thomas (Christine) Gerszewski of Warroad, MN, and Steven Gerszewski of East Grand Forks, MN; sisters, Anna Seeba of Grafton, ND, Frances Kazmierczak of Stephen, MN, Loretta (Robert) Lechner of Kasson, MN and Gertrude (Paul) Biggs of Grand Forks, ND; sisters-in-law, Selma Gerszewski of Northwood, IA, and Margaret Gerszewski of Argyle, MN; Peters caregivers, Floyd & Mary Otto and Patty Wagner all of Newfolden, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by parents; grandson, Scott; brothers, Leo, Alexander, Raymond, and Joseph; sisters, Eleanor Smith and Madgeline Kostrewski.
