Philip Roen, 78, died Monday, December 9, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 13, 2002, at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN, with Reverend Paul Knutson officiating. Burial will be at Rosebud Cemetery, Steenerson Township, Beltrami County, MN.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2002, at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Philip Roen was born December 7, 1924 in Steenerson Township, Beltrami County, MN, the son of Ole and Sandra (Bergerson) Roen. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He grew up and attended grade school in Steenerson Township and also high school at Red Lake and Bemidji, MN. Philip graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, MN in 1943.

On April 2, 1976, Philip was united in marriage to Ardell Grondahl at Goodridge, MN. He was employed as a mechanic at Henry Holte Implement Dealer and Herb Holthusen Construction. He also farmed with his brother Willard on the family farm.

Philip was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN. He also has held membership in the Grygla Lions and Grygla/Fourtown Sportsman Club.

Survived by wife, Ardell; step children, Jerald Holthusen, Pam Hogenson, Vickie (DelRay) Ruud all Grygla, MN and Lori (Robert) Nordby, Mounds View, MN; 12 grandchildren, April (Andy) Schneider, Jolene Holthusen, Amy (Craig) Conner, Steven, Dawn and Scott Hogenson, Derek and Devin Ruud, Heather (Vince) Hagen, Nicholas, Jeffrey and Matthew Nordby; 7 great grandchildren, Kayla, Grace and Claire Schneider, William Holthusen, Zachary Hogenson, Kelsie and Jordon Hagen; sisters Helen Knutson, Grygla, MN and Joyce Montgomery, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-laws, June Newhouse, Oklee and Karyl Larson, Gatzke, MN; brother-in-laws, Kenneth (Maxine) Grondahl, Vero Beach, FL and Donald McMillen, Roseau, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Willard and Russell.
