Obituary

Phyllis Gilomen, 91, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Thief River Falls Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Leo Deitemeyer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, St. Hilaire, MN. Phyllis Ethel (Kratzke) Gilomen was born October 9, 1923 the youngest of 7 girls, in Lake Lyda Township, near Vergas, MN daughter of Herman and Etta (Fletcher) Kratzke. Her dad said "anyone can mix them up but it takes a real man to have all of one kind". She was baptized and confirmed at the Loon Lake Lutheran Church near Vergas, MN. She attended Lyda Township Country School through 5th grade, Pelican Rapids to 8th grade, graduating in 1941 from the Perham High School. On June 29, 1941 she was united in marriage to Melvin Gilomen at Loon Lake Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Idaho and Las Vegas but lived on the farm the majority of the time near Perham, retiring to Vergas in 1990. In 2006 she came to live in Thief River Falls, MN. Phyllis was a bookkeeper for Baucks Chevrolet Garage in Perham, the Perham Municipal Liquor store, as a waitress for 13 years and farming with her husband until 1973. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, reading, word search and crossword puzzles, crafts and painting. She also enjoyed blue gill fishing with her cousin Elaine, the legal limit was of no concern. She was an active member of LWML, bible study groups and the Gorman Ladies Club. Survived by children: Larry (Bonnie) Gilomen, McVille, ND, Gwendolyn Gilomen, Thief River Falls, MN, Myron (Wendy) Gilomen, Iron River, WI, Carmen (Bernie) Stinson, Thief River Falls, MN: 8 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren: brother-in-law Harold Neu of Vergas, MN, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 2007, parents Herman and Etta Kratzke, siblings Eleanor Marks, Gertrude Gunderson, Idella Neu, Esther Berend, Doris Sampson, Gladys Strehlow.
