Phyllis Gunkel of Warroad, MN formerly of Crookston, MN age 77 went to be with the Lord at the Warroad Senior Living Center at Warroad, MN on Saturday, February 14, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Memorial service to celebrate the life of Phyllis Gunkel will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Twin Valley, MN. Phyllis Elaine (Tunks) Gunkel was born January 18, 1938 in Vernon, WI daughter of Harold and Mildred (Hall) Tunks. She was the oldest of 4 daughters. She attended school to the 8th grade. She married Kenneth Manning in 1954 and they had 7 children. Her second marriage was to Dallas Gunkel in 1967. She worked several years at the Long Branch in Borup, MN and she worked 24 years as a housekeeper at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN before retiring at the age of 73. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, drinking coffee, visiting her sister on the farm, watching Vikings football, and the Twins. She liked to go to the casino from time to time. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a WIBC bowling league. She is survived by her 3 sisters Clarice Lisburg of Fertile, MN, Violet (Dean) Lee of Gary, MN, and Shirley (Ron) Sell of Casselton, ND; children Jeanne (Mylan) Hackett of East Grand Forks, MN, Debbie (Casey) Lieverse of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, Timothy Manning of Red Lake Falls, MN, Susan (Ricky) Wiseman of Warroad, MN, Bridget (Marlow) Pallum of Nielsville, MN and Thomas Manning of Sauk Rapids, MN. She has 26 grandchildren; Steven, Kenny, Michelle, Jennifer, Laura, Angela, Allen, Pamela, Peggy Sue, Kenny, Melissa, Sarah, Christine, Leah, Kari, Jeramy, John, Tanya, Elaine, Ricky, Elizabeth, Michael, Amanda, Justin, Tylor and Isabelle. She has 58 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Peggy Sue, great-granddaughter Tamara and great-grandson Rylie.
