Phyllis Martell of Oklee, MN passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN with her loving family at her bed side.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father Adam Hamness officiating. Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery near Oklee, later in the spring.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Phyllis "Pokie" Ann Muszynski was born May 23, 1946 in South Milwaukee, WI daughter of Frank and Alice (Mansfield ) Muszynski. She attended school in South Milwaukee, WI graduating in 1964.

On April 28, 1973 Pokie was united in marriage to Richard "Jake" Martell in South Milwaukee. To this union two children were born, Jody Michael and Kippy Lyn. The couple made their home West of Brooks, MN for 7 years and then moved to rural Oklee in 1980.

Pokie worked numerous jobs, retiring from the Shooting Star Casino Mahnomen in 2015. Pokie currently was employed at Red Lake County Central Oklee, MN washing dishes in the kitchen. She enjoyed being around her grandkids and all her adopted ones that called her grandma Pokie.

She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, baking, gardening with her gardening club, playing cards and visiting with friends. She most especially enjoyed spending time with Marissa and Gavin watching them play sports.

Pokie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Jake Martell of Oklee, MN; children Jody Martell of Dilworth, MN and Kippy (Donnie Howard) Thomas of Oklee, MN; grandchildren Marissa and Gavin Thomas, Dakota, Caleb and Tristan Zach and Arianna Howard. Sister Sandy (Dennis) Filkins of Cudahy, WI; brothers-in-law Frank Ayotte of East Grand Forks, MN, Raymond (Cathy) Ayotte of Colorado Springs, CO, Dave Martell of Gentilly, MN; sisters-in-law Theresa (Jim) Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN, Lorraine (Dewayne) Miska of Euclid, MN, and Kathy (Norm) Brenna of Thief River Falls, MN; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

Pokie is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Alice Muszynski; in-laws Francis and Cecelia Martell; sister-in-law Patricia (Darrell) Stengl and Betty Ayotte.
