Raymond Hapka, 89, died on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 13, 2012 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Rick Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Argyle, MN. Raymond Julius Hapka was born on April 12, 1923 on his family's farm in Argyle, MN, the son of Bennie and Mary Hapka. Ray attended grade school and high school in Argyle. On January 24, 1987 Ray was united in marriage to Jovita Mangaliag in Grand Rapids, MN. Following their marriage, Ray and Govita made their home in Thief River Falls, MN, where Ray farmed his family's land. Ray enjoyed attending senior dances and listening to Polka music. He liked to garden, play bingo and cards and visit with friends. Family gatherings were especially important to Ray. One of his favorite pastimes was driving around the area to look at the crops. Ray liked to follow any activity or sport that his adopted grandchildren, Janet, Abby, and Christopher and his godchild, Jennifer were involved in. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, and friend who always liked to joke and tell good stories. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Jovita of Thief River Falls, MN; brother, May Hapka of Billingham, MN; nephews, Bruce (Tracy) Tippett of Champion, MI and Tony (Virginia) Tippett of Ishpening, MI; nieces, Maureen (Bob) Schaffer of Sturgeon Bay, WI; several great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins, relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Agnes Pearl Hapka Tippett and Rose Hapka McArthur.
