RAYMOND A. SCHINDLER of Thief River Falls, MN died Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his children. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:30 PM at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Father Rick Lambert will be presiding. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:30 PM prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Raymond was born in Red Lake Falls, MN on June 19, 1924, the son of John Schindler and Mary (Schmitz). He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and attended country school; Ray also attended Crookston Tech for study in Agriculture. Ray was united in marriage to Mary Ann Linnertz on June 12, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Ray and Mary Ann farmed and raised their six children in Smiley Township purchasing their dairy farm in 1954. They resided there until November, 2012 when they moved into town; their son Bob still resides on the family farm. Ray restored many antique tractors and enjoyed woodworking; he is remembered for his china hutches, coffee tables, picture frames,clocks, and numerous knick knack shelves all of which were regularly displayed at county fairs. His children remember him as a kind hearted man not critical of others; never shying away from hard work,never complaining, and always pulling a good prank. Ray was a lifetime member of the St. Hilaire Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus, he was known as the "Lions Club Resident Carpenter". Raymond is survived by his six children, Don Schindler of Thief River Falls, MN, Theresa Olson of Fargo, ND, Bob Schindler of Thief River Falls, Dale (Stephanie) Schindler of Lake Park, MN, Marlys (Shawn) Dunne of Chisago City, MN and Brian (Jill Stenberg) Schindler of Thief River Falls; brothers Valentine (Delores) Schindler, Theodore (Marianne) Schindler, and Vernon (Mary) Schindler; sisters, Josephine (Gene) Teggatz, Mary Ann (John) Schafer; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Blazejewski) (Josh) Rademacher, Jenessa (Josh Wiewek) Blazejewski, Julie (Jeff Beving) Blazejewski, Cody (Amber) Schindler, McKayla Schindler, Savanah & Sophia Schindler, Michael & David Dunne, Nicholas & Jadyn Schindler; 2 great grandchildren, Barrett Rademacher (Jennifer and Josh Rademacher) and Cayda Schindler (Cody and Amber Schindler); step grandchildren: Shane Cullen, Krystle (Grant) Meyer, Justin Sundrall and Cody Stenberg; and in-laws Don and Theresa Linnertz and Louise Lessard. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann; his parents, John and Mary; brothers, Edward (Jean) Schindler, Eugene (Pat) Schindler, and Bernard Schindler; sisters, Veronica (Leo) Hoeffer, Louise (Joe) Kees, stillborn infant brother Louis; and infant grand-daughter, Sarah Schindler.
