Raymond Buster Melvin Wicks was born on December 13, 1914 in Plummer, MN, the son of Paul and Ida (Lundquist) Wicks. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith by Father Patnode and attended Country School near Plummer. He served in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1944.
Raymond was united in marriage to Bernyce Asselin on June 11, 1946 in Oklee, MN by Father Patnode. They managed The Club Restaurant in Oklee and he also worked a the creamery in Oklee at the same time. In 1952 he went to work at the Dockyards in Alaska. After returning to Oklee Ray went to work as a Steamfitter and Pipe fitter, until retirement in 1977.
Ray enjoyed hunting, trapping, liked carpentry work and fixing things. He liked Search-A-Word and playing cards with his friends in The Villages and loved to spend time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, singing, telling jokes and had a very good attitude.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Pipe fitter Union Local 126.
Ray is survived by three children: Kathleen (Lyle) Erickson of Solway, MN, Michael (Lorna) Wicks of Oklee, MN and Jeffrey Wicks of Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren: Todd, Shawn and Christopher (Julie) Erickson, Danielle (Bill) Paradis, Charity (Eric Monson) Wicks, Benjamin, April, Adam and Georgi Wicks; four great grandchildren: Brandi Erickson, Alyssa Erickson, Mikayla Paradis and Seth Paradis; one brother, George (Pete) Wicks of Great Falls, MT; one sister, Eva Campbell of Green Bay, WI; brother-in-law, Harold Utech of Moose Lake, MN; and all of his Special Friends at the The Villeges .
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; his parents; brothers and sisters: Harry, Sonny, Marie, Leona and Helen.
