Obituary

Rene LaChappelle, 73, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at his residence in Thief River Falls, MN Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Bruce Fisher and Father Rick Lambert co-officiating. Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Rene Pierre LaChappelle was born on March 12, 1939 to Joseph T. and Elize (Guibault) LaChappelle in Warroad, MN. At the age of 18 months he suffered a fall and received a head injury. He stayed at home as he grew up and worked on the family farm, driving his favorite John Deere tractors. He lived the most of his life with his Mom and brother, Joe on the farm near Warroad, MN until their deaths. Rene worked at Polaris in Roseau through the ODC. Then he lived with his sister, JoAnn in Roseau for a couple of years. In July of 2000, he moved to Thief River Falls and became a member of the Johnson Boarding Home Family. He loved to be with and participate in the activities with the Johnson Boarding Home. While living at Johnson's Boarding Home he worked at the ODC in Thief River Falls. Rene was known to many as the sheriff as he wore a badge so proudly. He would say, "I am the sheriff so you better behave." In his pastime, Rene enjoyed putting puzzles together and watching TV Western including his favorite "Bonanza." Because he grew up near the railroad tracks, Rene was fond of trains and the Great Northern Railroad. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and John Deere tractors. He is survived by survived by siblings: MaryLou Harms of Rockford, IL; Kathryn Klein of Sidney, NE; JoAnn (Raymond) Vistad of Roseau, MN, David LaChappelle of Twin Valley, MN, two sisters in law: Catherine LaChappelle of Warroad, MN, Fern Nuhring of Roseau, MN, and many nieces and nephews. Rene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Art (Edna) LaChappelle, John (Cora) LaChappelle, Eugene Ellen, Jim (Helen) LaChappelle, Ralph LaChappelle, Joe LaChappelle, Steve LaChappelle, sister Leone LaChappelle, and brother in laws: Charles Harms and Dick Klein.
