Obituary

Rheta Larson, 65, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 7, 2011 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN with Rev. Sheila Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at Holt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday at the church.

Rheta Helgenset was born August 1, 1945 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Arnold and Margaret Elaine (Hanson) Helgenset. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Rheta attended Knox Elementary School, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964, and the Area Vocational Technical College in 1965.

On August 7, 1941, Rheta was united in marriage to Gordon David Larson at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home on the Larson family farm in Holt Township, and to this union two children were born: Lisa and Lucas. Through the years while her children were growing, Rheta stayed home to raise them and care for them.

After her children had graduated from high school, Rheta worked at Arctic Cat for a few years. Rheta then went to work for Tri Valley as a housekeeper assisting the elderly with their needs. This was a job Rheta found very rewarding.

Rheta enjoyed shopping, baking, walking, nature and her work. Her time spent raising her children were the happiest times of her life. Rheta was a good wife and mom. She was a kind, considerate person and very good to her family and friends.

She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church of Holt and the Mary Circle.

Survivors include her husband Gordon of Thief River Falls; children, Lisa (Joe) Holten of Nampa, ID and Lucas Larson of Robbinsdale, MN; grandchildren, Macy and Claire Holten; brothers, Wayne Helgenset of St. Hilaire, MN and John Helgenset of Thief River Falls. Rheta is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
