Richard "Rick" Gitz 47, of rural Brooks, MN passed away at home Saturday, September 1, 2012. Memorial service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN with Reverend Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Service on Saturday. Graveside services will be held at Lakeland Cemetery at Pelican Rapids at a later date. Richard "Rick" Keith Gitz was born September 1, 1965 in Marshall, MN son of Robert Gitz, as an infant he moved to rural Brooks and was raised by his aunt Dorothy Plante. He returned to Marshall for a short time and then returned to his Aunts home when he was 16 years old and has continued to live in the Brooks area since. Rick worked for Marflex in Brooks until it was moved to Detroit Lakes, MN and since then was commuting to Detroit Lakes for work. He was once married to Lori Grove. Rick loved to fix old cars, run in demo derby's and spending time with his cattle. He is survived by his father Robert Gitz of Marshall, MN and sister Roberta Gitz of Marshall, MN; Aunts Dorothy Plante of Brooks, MN and Lillian Abrahamson of Detroit, MI, Uncles August Gitz of Shevlin, MN, Ferdinand Gitz of Lengby, MN and Elmer Gitz of Lengby, MN; honorary family, Rob and Sandy Mayer, Dade Mayer, Allison Mayer, Jordan Frested, Erike and Paul Kalinoski and sons; along with many cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Uncles Herman and Ervin and Aunt Erma Black.
